Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Medical
Technologist - Microbiologist I is responsible for operating and
maintaining a CLIA Moderate Complexity Clinical Laboratory;
examining patient specimens, running rapid tests, documenting all
results, entering results into the Electronic Medical Records
System, maintaining quality control for all tests performed, and
troubleshooting lab equipment.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Receive, prepare, and test samples and specimens for Public Health
Laboratory
Prepare media, stains, and reagents; determines which product to
make, and how to properly prepare, date and store it.
Responsible for Microscopic identification of types of
microorganisms; determine specific microorganisms via gram stain
slides, and KOH method.
Perform various rapid and other clinical lab tests; determine what
tests to run and how to run tests per Standard Operating
Guidelines.
Perform administrative tasks including test results entry into
laboratory test logs and Electronic Medical Records System,
temperature and equipment logs, and similar clinical laboratory
records, using proper reporting terminology.
Enter results into the Electronic Medical Records System utilizing
proper reporting terminology.
Send and receive log sheets and laboratory reports internally and
externally by adhering to HIPAA guidelines; determine recipients
log sheets; determine if lab results are accurate and report them
to appropriate staff; ship specimens by adhering to current
shipping regulations.
Check accuracy of monthly numbers and reports.
Maintain safe and sanitary work environment in clinical laboratory
as part of quality assurance.
Maintain compliance with clinical laboratory policies
procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Bacteriology,
Chemistry, or related field.
Experience using a microscope.
Experience preparing reagents with aseptic techniques.
Knowledge of laboratory skills and laboratory safety practices.
Required to play an active role during a public health emergency,
crisis, outbreak, incident, or event in which the Health
Commissioner deems additional personnel resources are warranted.
This may include changes in responsibilities and working
locations/hours.
Understands and acknowledges that Public Health - Dayton &
Montgomery County is an evidence-based and evidence-informed public
health practices based on scientific research including health
promotion theory and practice, environmental health measures, and
communicable disease control measures including vaccination,
isolation, and quarantine practices, and medicine for treatment and
prevention of disease, among others.
Understands and acknowledges the use of tobacco or nicotine
products in any form including replacement therapy products and
prescription medications used to treat smoking addiction for anyone
hired after January 1, 2014, is prohibited.
Completion of ICS 100 and 700 within 90 days of hire.
Valid State of Ohio driver's license and insurance on any personal
vehicle that will be used for work.
Preferred Qualifications:
Medical Laboratory Technician Certification (MLT)
Basic Life Science Certification (BLS)
2 plus years' experience as a Medical Technologist
2 plus years' of clinical laboratory experience
