Job Description:
Summary:We are looking for a skilled tool and die, maker, to
craft dies and metal tools for our manufacturing facility. In this
role, you will be required to interpret design schematics, cut and
shape dies, and assemble the completed parts. To be successful as a
tool and die maker, you should have in-depth knowledge of metalwork
and engineering, a good eye for detail, and the ability to
visualize structural components. A top-class tool and die maker is
able to translate ideas into expertly crafted metal forms ready for
the manufacturing process. The Tool and Die Maker will cut, shape,
finish, and maintain tools made of metal and will forge diecasts to
create molds. Knowledgeable and knows how to build tools, dies,
prototype parts, jigs, fixtures, and gauges to specified designs
approved by the Program Manager. Duties/Responsibilities:
- Reviews and details assemble prints as required.
- Uses tools and dies to build fixtures; creates dies as required
to construct new fixtures.
- Repairs dies, molds, and tools when needed; disassembles molds,
jigs, tools, and fixtures, then reassembles when repaired.
- Reads and understands blueprints and complicated schematics as
required to create and build new fixtures, tools, and machine
parts.
- Uses computer-aided design (CAD) software to create designs
and/or turn designs into blueprints.
- Inspects completed tools and dies for signs of imperfection or
damage that may affect functionality.
- Must satisfy quality standards.
- Regularly tests all equipment, tools, and machines to ensure
they are arranged and set properly and working efficiently.
- Modifies machines to control speed, material feed, or path of
cut as required to ensure a quality product is produced within
specifications.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and well-organized workspace.
- Sets up and operates machine tools to the machine details,
grinds details to specifications, and verifies detail conformance
to specifications.
- Performs other related duties as assigned. Required
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Worked as a tool & die maker.
- Ability to safely and accurately operate all measuring and
production equipment.
- Working understanding of geometry, trigonometry, and
algebra.
- Ability to work independently, and with engineers and
machinists.
- Proficient with computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Die setting or metal stamping experience
- Tool and diemaker certification is preferred. Physical
Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a
computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Stand for a long period of time.
- Clearly communicate orally and in writing.
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is
regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to
walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and
arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to
sit; climb balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee
must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision
abilities required by this job include close vision, distance
vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Work
